Meet the Research Team

Principal Investigator:
Dr. Ruth E. Taylor-Piliae, PhD, RN Karen E. Greco, PhD, RN, ANP-BC
  • Nurse practitioner and nurse scientist specializing in cancer prevention, early detection, and cancer genetics.
  • Adjunct Associate Professor, University of Arizona College of Nursing.
  • Research Interests: Health care decision-making in individuals and families at increased risk for developing breast, colorectal, or other cancers; helping individuals better understand their cancer risk and options for lowering risk.
  • Education: Master’s and PhD degrees in Nursing with a minor in genetics, Oregon Health & Science University of Nursing;  Bachelor of Science in Nursing, University of Nevada; board certified as an adult nurse practitioner. 
  • Professional Activities: President of the International Society of Nurses in Genetics (ISONG); member of the Oncology Nursing Society and member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors.
  • Presentations/Publications: Presented work nationally and internationally; has numerous publications related to her work.

  • Professor & Chair of Nursing Research, Scottsdale Healthcare/University of Arizona;
  • Chair: Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) Fatigue Study Group; former member: National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Cancer-Related Fatigue (CRF) Expert Panel; developer: Piper Fatigue Scale and Integrated Fatigue Model.
  • Current studies: 1. Assessing the translation/Implementation of NCCN CRF Guidelines: A MASCC web-based survey; 2. Colorectal cancer risk and decision-making study; 3. Fatigue severity, prevalence, & correlates in patients across advance practice nursing specialties.
